Central Med Info 2.0

Since January 2021, we share parts of our collected data from Central Mediterranean (Central Med) by the end of each month. These contain all information available to us on arrivals, rescues and push & pullbacks in the Central Med. Thus, we contrast the figures of the Italian Ministry of Interior and the UN with a civilian observation. In various statistics and tables we collect and process all information available to us through various channels and networks. In addition to arrival & departure points, nationalities, age and gender, we record any characteristics that may allow tracing individuals or groups. These clues can, for example, help families in their search for their loved ones. The figures are based on our research and are to be read without guarantee. More information and a further explanation of the categories used can be found here

Since March 2022, our Central Med Info, is published as par of a collaboration with the sea rescue organization Mediterranea Saving Humans, in Italian and English in the organization's Med Report.

Criminalization of Migration & Solidarity in Italy

In the course of the collective attempt to shut down its borders, the EU uses numerous means of deterrence to prevent people from seeking safety in Europe. The criminalisation of people on the move and those who are in solidarity with them has been a widespread strategy for years. In Italy, too, people are prosecuted under the charge of "aiding and abetting unauthorised entry".A project in cooperation with UNITED4RESCUE

Sudan: Documentation of enforced disappearances

What does the externalisation of the EU borders to Sudan have to do with the outbreak of war? With the so-called Karthoum process, the EU's external border was outsourced to Turkey and, more recently, Tunisia. In Sudan, the closure of the borders was made possible by dictator El Bashir and his accomplice Hemetti. We are working with the Africa Centre for Justice and Peace Studies to document cases of disappeared activists and migrants.
